Triggers

Start a workflow when something happens in Ocean Biodiversity Information System.

  • New OBIS records of a taxonRuns when a dataset in OBIS adds records of a species or other taxon, optionally only in one area: once for each dataset, with how many records it added. OBIS loads records a dataset at a time, a few times a day.
  • New OBIS datasetRuns when a dataset is added to OBIS, optionally only from one OBIS node, with its title, citation, license, nodes and record counts.

Actions

Steps a workflow can run in Ocean Biodiversity Information System.

  • Search occurrence recordsFind records of where and when marine species were seen or sampled, by taxon, area, node, institute, dataset, dates, depth and a bounding box, optionally only threatened, introduced or harmful species and without flagged records. Each has the species, date, position, depth, sea temperature, who recorded it and its dataset. Up to 1,000 a step.
  • Get an occurrence recordGet one occurrence record by its OBIS ID, with everything 'Search occurrence records' gives and every other field it holds (sampling protocol, event IDs, identification remarks...).
  • Get a taxonLook up a species or other taxon by scientific name or WoRMS AphiaID: its AphiaID, accepted name, rank, classification, common names, habitats, whether it is introduced or a harmful alga, and how many records OBIS has of it, from which years. 'Found' is false when OBIS doesn't know it.
  • List species recordedList the species and other taxa recorded for any filter, such as every species recorded in a sea area or by a dataset, most records first, with each one's AphiaID, classification, common names and record count.
  • List Red List speciesList the species on the IUCN Red List among the records for any filter, such as the threatened species recorded in an area, most threatened first, with each one's Red List category and record count.
  • List newly recorded speciesList the species whose first record, among the records for any filter, is the most recent: species newly found in an area, such as a sea area's new arrivals, with the year each was first recorded.
  • Search datasetsFind OBIS datasets by words in their title and description, and by the records they hold: a taxon, area, node, institute, dates, depth or bounding box. Each comes with its citation, license, nodes, record counts and when OBIS last processed it, most matching records first.
  • Get a datasetGet one OBIS dataset: its title, abstract, citation, DOI, license, nodes, institutes, contacts, record counts, the area it covers, when it was published and last processed, and its downloads by year.
  • List newest datasetsList the datasets added to OBIS most recently, latest publication first, optionally only one node's, with everything 'Search datasets' gives.
  • Get download countsCount how often a dataset's or a node's records were downloaded from OBIS, by year, and for a dataset between two dates: how many downloads included them and how many records they took.
  • List OBIS nodesList the 39 OBIS nodes, the regional and thematic networks that publish data to OBIS, with each one's ID, kind, theme, website and location.
  • Get an OBIS nodeGet one OBIS node: what it does, the people who run it, the IPT servers it harvests, its projects, and how many records, species and datasets it has published.
  • Search institutesList the institutes behind the records for any filter, such as who records a species or works in a sea area, most records first, with each one's country and OceanExpert ID.
  • List areasList OBIS's areas, the regions its records can be narrowed to: country waters, IHO sea areas, large marine ecosystems, EBSAs, Marine World Heritage sites and the high seas, with each one's ID.
  • Get record statisticsCount the records for any filter: how many there are, of how many species and taxa, from how many datasets, over which years, and how many are of birds, fish and mammals.
  • Count records by yearCount the records for any filter year by year, oldest first, such as how a species' records have grown, with the busiest year.
  • Count records by temperature, salinity and depthCount the records for any filter by the sea surface temperature and salinity where they were made and by depth, in bins, to see the conditions a species lives in.
  • Get a data quality reportReport on the quality of the records for any filter, such as one dataset's: which Darwin Core fields are missing or invalid in how many records, OBIS's quality flags and how many records each carries, and how many are plotted on land.
  • Count records by fieldCount the records for any filter by the values of one or more fields, such as species, year, dataset, country, life stage or quality flag, most records first.
