Steps a workflow can run in World Bank Open Data.
- Get a country's latest valueGet the most recent value of one indicator for one country, with the value before it and how much it changed, returned flat so a later step can read the number without indexing into a list. Answers questions like what is GDP in Kenya in one step. No account or API key required.
- Get a country's values over timeGet one indicator for one country year by year, oldest first, with the first and last values, the change between them, the average growth per year and the highest and lowest points. Years with no value are left out.
- Compare countriesPut two to fifty countries side by side on one indicator and rank them, in a single step. Leaving the year empty gives each country its own most recent value, which can be a different year for each; every row carries its own period, and countries with no value are listed as missing.
- Rank countriesThe highest or lowest countries in the world on one indicator, with the world figure alongside. Regional and income groups are left out by default so the ranking is of countries, but they can be put back in. Without a year, each country is read at its most recent value from the last ten years.
- Get a country profileGet several headline figures for one country at once: population, GDP, GDP per capita, growth, inflation, unemployment, life expectancy and poverty unless you choose others. One step instead of eight, each figure with its own year; one the country does not report is marked not found rather than left out.
- Get indicator dataGet the values of one indicator for some countries, or all of them, over a range of years: one row per country and period, newest first. Quarterly and monthly figures can be asked for where a database publishes them. Up to 20,000 rows.
- Find indicatorsLook indicators up by name, code or definition, such as gdp per capita or school enrollment, to find the code the other actions take. Searches the World Development Indicators unless you pick another database or every database; the best matches come first.
- Get an indicator's definitionGet what an indicator measures: its full definition, the database it belongs to, the organizations that collect it and the topics it is filed under.
- List a topic's indicatorsList the indicators filed under one topic, such as Education or Climate Change, by name. Lists the World Development Indicators ones unless you pick another database or every database.
- List topicsList the 21 subjects the World Bank files its indicators under, such as Health, Education and Poverty, with what each covers.
- List databasesList the World Bank's databases, from the World Development Indicators to education, gender and debt statistics, with when each was last updated.
- List countriesList the 217 economies the World Bank reports on, with each one's codes, region, income group, lending type and capital. Narrow the list to a region, income level or lending type, or include the regional and income groups as well.
- Get a countryGet one country's or group's World Bank details, found by name or code: its ISO codes, region, income group, lending type and capital.
- List regions and groupsList the World Bank's seven geographic regions and the other country groups it reports on, such as the European Union and small states, with their codes.
- Get poverty estimatesGet the share and number of people living below a poverty line in one country, with inequality and average income, from the World Bank's Poverty and Inequality Platform. The latest survey year by default, or any year, or every year.
- Get poverty by regionGet the share and number of people below a poverty line in each World Bank region and in the world as a whole, from the Poverty and Inequality Platform.
