Actions

Steps a workflow can run in ClinicalTrials.gov.

  • Search studiesFind clinical trials and other studies on ClinicalTrials.gov by condition, treatment, place, sponsor or any words, narrowed by recruitment status, phase, study type, distance from a point, and when studies started, were first posted or were last updated. Each study comes with its NCT number, title, status, phases, conditions, treatments, sponsor, key dates, countries and a short summary. Up to 1,000 a page; pass the next page token for more.
  • Get studyGet everything ClinicalTrials.gov records about one study from its NCT number: titles, status and dates, sponsor and collaborators, design, groups and treatments, outcome measures, eligibility criteria, contacts, sites (50 unless you ask for more, or only those in one country), publications and whether results are posted, with a link to them. You can paste the study's page address instead of its number.
  • List data model fieldsList the fields a ClinicalTrials.gov study record has, with each one's short name (used in searches, sorting and statistics), title, type and description. Narrow them with a word, e.g. 'sponsor'.
  • List search areasList the areas ClinicalTrials.gov searches, such as conditions, treatments, locations and sponsors: the fields each looks in, how much a match in each counts towards the best match, and the area name to use in AREA[...] search terms.
  • List coded valuesList the fixed codes ClinicalTrials.gov fields use, such as every recruitment status (RECRUITING, COMPLETED...) or phase (PHASE1, PHASE2...), each with the words its website shows for it. Pick one type, or a field that uses it, or leave it empty for all of them.
  • Get study size statisticsSee how many studies ClinicalTrials.gov holds and how big their records are: the average and percentiles, how many fall in each size band, and the largest studies. Useful before downloading records in bulk.
  • Get field value statisticsSee how the whole registry fills in chosen fields: the commonest values and how many studies have each (e.g. the top sponsors or how many studies are in each phase), how many studies leave the field empty, and the range of numbers and dates.
  • Get list field size statisticsSee how many items list fields hold across the registry, e.g. how many conditions, sites or phases studies have: the shortest and longest lists and how many studies have each length. Leave the fields empty for every list field.
  • Get data versionFind out when ClinicalTrials.gov last refreshed its data (it does so once a day) and which version of its API is running.
