Health & FitnessMisc References

Look up exercises from AscendAPI's free ExerciseDB v1 dataset: 1,500 of them, each with an animated GIF, the muscle it targets, the muscles it also works, the body part and the equipment it needs, plus step-by-step instructions. Search by name or by a rough idea, filter by body part, muscle and equipment at once, draw a random exercise, or build a whole workout spread across the areas you name and the kit you have. ExerciseDB applies the filters itself, so narrowing by chest and barbell is a single request and the match is exact rather than fuzzy. Keyless: no key and no account. The free dataset is for non-commercial use and asks for attribution, which every action returns ready to carry through.

Steps your workflow can run in ExerciseDB.

List exercisesRead the catalogue, optionally narrowed to names matching some text.
Search exercisesSearch when you do not know the exact words. The match is fuzzy across names, muscles, body parts and equipment, and results keep their relevance ranking, best first.
Get an exerciseGet one exercise in full: its GIF, the muscle it targets, the muscles it also works, the body part, the equipment and every instruction step. Takes an exercise id or a name.
Find an exercise by nameTurn an exercise name into its record without guessing. A name matching several exercises is refused with the candidates listed rather than resolved to an arbitrary one.
Get how to do an exerciseGet one exercise's instructions, numbered and ready to send, with the demonstration GIF and the muscles worked alongside them.
List exercises for a body partEvery exercise for one area of the body, matched exactly rather than fuzzily.
List exercises for a muscleEvery exercise that works one muscle, either as the muscle it targets or, if you ask, as a supporting one too.
List exercises for a piece of equipmentEvery exercise that uses one piece of equipment. Answers what can be done with only a kettlebell, or with nothing at all.
Filter exercisesFind exercises matching several criteria at once. More values in one field widens the search, a second field narrows it, so chest or back with a barbell or dumbbell means exactly that.
Get random exercisesDraw exercises at random, optionally from a narrowed pool. Set a seed to make the draw repeatable.
Build a workoutPut together a workout spread evenly across the areas you name and limited to the equipment available, so six exercises over chest, back and legs gives two of each.
Summarise the catalogueSee what the dataset holds: every body part, muscle and piece of equipment with how many exercises carry it, commonest first.
List body partsThe ten areas of the body the dataset files its exercises under. These are the values the body-part filters accept.
List musclesThe fifty muscles the dataset names, target and secondary alike.
List equipmentThe twenty-eight kinds of equipment the dataset names, body weight among them.
