Steps a workflow can run in Wikiquote.

  • Get quotes from a pageRead the quotations off a Wikiquote page as separate records, each with the sources, translations and notes filed under it and the section it sits in. Narrow to one section and everything beneath it to get, say, only a person's 1930s quotes or only the quotes about them.
  • Get the quote of the dayGet English Wikiquote's quote of the day, for today or for any day in its archive, with its author.
  • Get a random pageGet a random Wikiquote page with its lead extract, short description and thumbnail. Pair it with Get quotes from a page to pull a quotation from someone you were not looking for.
  • Search WikiquoteSearch the full text of a Wikiquote edition and get the pages that match, each with a snippet showing the match in context. Order by relevance, recency, incoming links or title, and page through the results.
  • Suggest page titlesAutocomplete Wikiquote page titles from the first letters of one, the way the wiki's own search box does. Turns a partly remembered name into an exact title.
  • List pagesWalk an edition's page titles in alphabetical order, optionally only those starting with some text. Built for sweeping a whole namespace a page at a time.
  • Get a page summaryGet a page's opening summary: who or what it is about, a short description, a thumbnail and a link.
  • Get page textGet a whole Wikiquote page as plain text, or just its opening section, for handing to a model.
  • List the sections of a pageGet a page's table of contents. Wikiquote files a person's quotations under headings, so this is how you find out what to pass to the section filter.
  • Get page detailsGet a page's metadata: how long it is, when it was last touched, its latest revision, how many editors watch it, and its links. Does not follow redirects, so it is also how you find out that a title is one.
  • List what is in a categoryList the pages, subcategories and files filed under one Wikiquote category. Categories are how the wiki groups its subjects, so this is the way to get every page on a theme.
  • Get a page's categoriesGet the categories one page is filed under, keeping or dropping the hidden maintenance ones.
  • Browse categoriesWalk an edition's categories in alphabetical order, with how many pages, subcategories and files each one holds.
  • Get the pages a page links toList the wiki pages one page links out to: the people, works and themes its quotations mention.
  • Get the pages that link to a pageList the pages that link to one page, which is how you find the pages that quote or mention a subject without being about them.
  • Get a page's imagesGet the images on a page with a thumbnail and a full-size URL for each, plus the description page carrying each file's licence.
  • Get a page in other languagesList the other Wikiquote editions that have a page on the same subject, each with that edition's own title for it, which is what a further call against that edition needs.
  • Get a page's edit historyGet a page's revisions: who changed it, when, what they said they were doing, and how the page's size moved. Bound it to a window to see what changed between two dates.
  • List recent changesSee what has changed on an edition lately: new pages, edits, moves and deletions, with who made each one. Filter by namespace, kind of change, and whether to skip bot or minor edits.
  • Get edition statisticsHow large one Wikiquote edition is: its pages, quotation pages, total edits, registered and active users, and admins.
