The Muse's API has no keyword search of its own, so this reads the filtered listing page by page and matches as it goes: set the filters as narrowly as you can, and raise 'Most pages to read' when you want it to look further. It reports how far it read and whether it reached the end, so 'nothing found' and 'nothing in the first hundred' are told apart.
List jobs published since a dateThe roles published on or after a date - what a daily or weekly job alert is built on. The Muse's API has no date filter and no newest-first ordering, so this reads the filtered listing page by page and keeps the postings dated on or after the day given. It reports how far it read, so 'nothing new' and 'nothing new in the pages read' are told apart.
Get jobOne posting in full by its Muse job id: title, company, locations, categories, experience levels, posting date, the link to apply, and the whole description as HTML and as plain text. The id comes from any of the listing actions.
Count jobsHow many open roles match a set of filters, without reading any of them. One request that answers with a number instead of twenty postings and their full descriptions, so it is cheap enough for a condition, a daily figure, or a 'senior versus entry level' comparison.

Search companiesFind an employer by name, and with it the id 'Get company' takes and the exact spelling the job filters match on. The Muse's API has no name search, so this reads the company listing and matches as it goes; the roster is around a thousand profiles, so a search that finds nothing has read all of them and the answer is trustworthy.
Get companyOne employer's profile by its Muse company id: name, industries, size band, offices, blurb, Twitter handle, logo, and links to the profile and its jobs page. The id comes from 'Search companies', 'List companies', or the company block on any job.
Count companiesHow many employers match a set of filters, without reading their profiles - 'how many biotech companies hire in Boston'. One request, answered with a number.
Find locationsTurn a place name into the exact values The Muse's location filter accepts - 'seattle' becomes 'Seattle, WA'. Worth doing before filtering on a location read from a spreadsheet, an email or an earlier step: The Muse answers a place it does not recognise by quietly returning the remote-only listings rather than an error, so an unchecked value comes back looking like a successful search with the wrong jobs in it. Reads The Muse's published list and makes no API request.
