Actions

Steps a workflow can run in Fandom.

  • Search a wikiSearch the full text of one Fandom wiki and get back the pages that match, best match first. Searches articles by default. This is the way in: most other actions take a page, and this is where a page comes from.
  • Get random pagesPick pages from a wiki at random: a character of the day, a trivia question, a page to tidy up. Redirects are left out, so every page is a real one.
  • Get a pageRead one wiki page as plain text, along with its list of sections, so a later step can summarise it, translate it or answer questions from it. The infobox, tables, galleries and reference notes are left out, leaving the prose a reader reads. Narrow to one section to read just the biography or just the plot.
  • Get a page summaryWhat a page is about in one paragraph, with its main picture. This is the card view: enough to put a character or an episode in a digest, a Slack message or an email without reading the whole page.
  • Get a page's infoboxThe facts in the box at the side of a page, as labels and values: a character's house and wand, an item's rarity, an episode's air date. A later step can read one fact directly by its label.
  • List the links on a pageThe pages one page links to, in title order: every character an episode mentions, every item a quest needs.
  • List the images on a pageThe images a page shows, each with its full-size address, a thumbnail address and its size, ready to post or download.
  • List the categories a page is inWhere one page is filed: a character's house, species and the books they appear in. Read a page's categories, then list the pages in one of them to find everything else like it.
  • List the pages in a categoryEverything filed under one category: every Gryffindor, every episode of a season, every weapon in a game, with how many the category holds altogether.
  • List what links to a pageWhich pages point at this one: every episode a character appears in, every page that mentions an item. Pages that link to it under an older name are included.
  • Get a page's edit historyWho changed one page, when, and what they said they were doing. Use it to see whether a page is kept up to date, to credit the people who wrote it, or to watch a page a workflow depends on.
  • List recent changesWhat has been edited across a whole wiki lately, newest first: run it on a schedule for a weekly digest of new and changed articles.
  • List a user's editsOne person's edits on one wiki, newest first, with what they changed and why. Use it to welcome new editors, follow a trusted contributor, or check what an account has been doing.
  • Get a user's profileOne person's Fandom account as one wiki sees it: how many edits they have made there, when they joined Fandom, the roles they hold on the wiki and whether they are blocked.
  • Get wiki infoA wiki's name, language, main page and logo, and how big it is: its articles, pages, edits, files and active editors.
  • Get a file's detailsOne uploaded image or file: its full-size and thumbnail addresses, size, type, and who uploaded it when.
