How it works
What happens on each run, in plain English.
Whenever a new email arrives in Gmail, it is checked against your filters: words in the subject, senders to watch, phrases anywhere in the body, and words that mean it should be ignored, such as automatic replies and newsletters. Every filter you use has to match and every filter you leave empty is ignored, so only the email that matters is posted into your Slack channel and the channel stays worth reading.
Each alert gives the subject, the sender and the first part of the message, with a link that opens it in Gmail, and can ping the channel or a named person. If you require a Gmail label, the email is only posted when it carries that label, letting an existing Gmail filter decide what counts; if Gmail cannot be asked, the alert still goes out with a note saying the label was not confirmed. An email that matches nothing ends the run quietly and says why in the run log. Nothing in Gmail is changed.
